Sergio Scappini

Scappini Segio - Artist - Bugari Evo

Sergio Scappini teaches accordion at the “Giuseppe Verdi” music academy in Milan.

He studied accordion, piano and composition with Emanuele Spantaconi, Anita Porrini, Bruno Bettinelli.

He won a lot of national and international competitions, among them the XXIV “Trophée Mondial de la C.M.A.” (Confédération Mondiale de l’Accordéon).

A soloist, he also plays chamber music and regularly appears in the most prestigious orchestras and venues: Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Piccolo Teatro, Teatro Lirico, Teatro delle Erbe-Foro Bonaparte, Auditorium “G.Verdi”, Museo della Scala di Milano; N. Piccinni di Bari; Politeama Greco di Lecce; Pontificio Istituto di musica sacra di Roma; auditorium F. Alfano di Sanremo; Teatro Regio di Parma; Accademia della musica di Bologna; Piccolo Regio di Torino; Ambasciata d’Italia di Stoccolma; Consolato di Lvov (Ukraina), Istituto di cultura di Tokio (Japan), Istituto Gnessin di Moscow, Stoccolma (Svezia), Timisoara (Romania) e Rabat (Marocco), Dipartimento della Cultura musicale Elvetica; Glasbena Matica di Trieste, Conservatori di Barcellona, Lleyda, Malaga, Cuenca, Ourense (Spagna), Tjanin (Cina), di Kosice (Repubblica Ceca), di Pola (Jugoslavia), Kiev (Ukraina), Francoforte, Novara, Bolzano, Foggia, Como, Lyceum, Agimus etc.

He is responsible for countless world creations of accordion solo music and accordion concertos by R. Grisoni, L. Belmonti, W. Zubitsky, L. Francesconi, A. Corghi, M. Panni, L.Tessadrelli, M. Moretti, A. Solbiati, M. Cesa, F. Gemmo, D. Maggi, P. Rimoldi, Y. Avital.
He has recorded for radio and television in Italy, Switzerland and Portugal and released some compact discs for “Smef56”, Play Roland, Physa, Etnomusica/Self.

He is the artistic director of “Sinequanon-Akkordeonensemble”

Recently he has been artistic director of the accordionists of “Mise en abime”, composition by Yuval Avital written for 34 accordions, two bass tuba, percussions, ethnic instruments, choir and four conductors.

Sergio has played with the following prestigious outfits: Teatro alla Scala orchestra, Sanremo symphony orchestra, G Cantelli Orchestra in Milan, Swiss chamber orchestra, orchestra of the Swiss Radio, chamber Orchestra “Città di Pavia”, Orchestra del “Coccia” di Novara, “Edgar Varèse” ensemble, Quartetto Elfran, “Solisti di Milano”, “Orchestra Reunion cumbre”, Ensemble Scaligero.

Scappini regularly teaches masterclasses in Italy, China, North Korea, Spain, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland, Ukraina.
In a joint project with the “Conjunto para el tango” ensemble, he recorded a CD with works by BORGES-PIAZZOLLA, while he also collaborated on the CD “Urtopia” of Ivano Torre’s Swiss ensemble for “Altri Suoni”; that CD won the “Selection Swiss Radio international” and “Urt in pubblico” awards.

Together with the “Sinequanon-Akkordeonensemble” he recorded Luciano Fancelli’s opera omnia with the RSI2 and AIF (the international association of Accordion players).

He is a winner of the stage accordion-player competition of the Teatro della Scala in Milan.

Roland Europe invited him to collaborate with its V-Accordion project, the first digital accordion in the world, which he later showcased in Italy, the United States, Germany, Japan, China, South Korea, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Spain, Russia, USA.

In November 2010, he received the Hamamatsu Electronic Arts Award from the Roland Foundation for his contributions to the performance and promotion of electronic musical instruments.

He is Musical Adviser for the “Bugari Evo” project for the musical technical innovation and promotion of the “Haria” digital accordion.

He is a winner of the stage accordion-player competition of the Teatro della Scala in Milan.

He plays “Armando Bugari” instruments – Castelfidardo – Italy.
